There have been some interesting happenings on Guntersville lately!!! With so much fishing pressure and large tournaments many people are claiming the fish are "dwindling." It seems (and I've witnessed) many tournaments are having large mortality rates as well as many many fisherman are taking there allotted 10 fish home to stock ponds or filleting them at the ramp! Many of the locals are petitioning for new regulations including much tougher regulations on tournaments and possible permits to be purchased from the state to even have a tournament! I am attaching some links that discuss the problems and proposed solutions below:
We already do a wonderful job at our weigh-ins making sure the fish are released in as good as or better condition than they were when they were brought in. But I say let us be an example!!! Lets show that tournament fisherman can be proactive and responsible enough to take good care of the fish we catch. This goes for each and every fisherman not just the tournament committee cause lets face it who is in possession of that fish the majority of the day? Lets make sure these fish and lakes are here and as good for the future as they are for us now!
