Can anyone tell me anything about the new Yamaha SHO engines? I am looking at putting a new engine on the back of my boat and would like to know more about them?

Call and talk to Carter Schoolfield at Nichols Marine or Lee Hass at Fish N Fun. I personally would like to have 1 on my next boat.

Was a camera boat operator at the National Collegiate Championship on Ft. Loudon last spring. Drove a Z521with a Yamaha SHO 250HP all day. It is quiet, but strong. The Ranger topped out at 78-79mph with myself and a TV cameraman and his equipment aboard. It performed very well....One drawback....be prepared for "sticker shock" when you look at the price tag. The 4 stroke is here to stay in the bass fishin' arena, but to date is expensive.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I will be at our next tournament with the SHO on the back. Eddie at Boats and Motors in Dalton worked me up one heck of a deal!!! I am getting the SHO for less money than I can get the Merc ProXs series for. John and I just got home from the Dalton trade show and working things out with Eddie. The plan is to take him the boat on Tuesday. I hope that this engine is good as I am being told it is?!?!?!?!

That shouldn't be too hard to do Rigg's....have you seen the size of my me and partner?!?!?!?! We are not little guys, then we are in a Stratos and you are in a Bullet!!! Hey, then again....I have never caught a fish while the BIG motor was running. I will just be glad to have an engine on the back that we can depend on, no matter how fast it goes.

I think that I am really going to like this engine. It ran great today. We put 3hrs on it today and have 7hrs more to go for the break in. It ran better than we fished!!!! Attachments:

Hows the gas mileage seem to be Brad?? What kind of speeds are you running now?

Not sure what kind of mileage it is actually getting, but I can tell you that it is MUCH better than before. During pre-fishing just to put some hrs on the engine we put in at Hwy 117 bridge, ran down below Water Front and fished our way back. We only used 3/8 tank of fuel. The next day we put in at Mudd Creek and and down below Mink Creek and fished our way back only using less than1/4 tank of fuel. As for the speed, with a 25 pitch prop, right now it will run 73.3 mph at 5900 rpm with 25 lbs of water pressure and NO rooster tail off of the engine. I am going to try a going to try a 27 pitch prop next week and see how it does then. I still had some jack plate left, but I did not want to turn any more rpm. The 25 pitch is not enough, but I am afraid the 27 pitch may be too much? I might have to put a 26 pitch Mercury prop on it to get it to do what I want?! Either way I go, it is MUCH MUCH better than it was, and I have a good piece of mind knowing that I have new engine hanging on the back that I do not worry about!!!
